National Training Curriculum in Basel, Switzerland
Training Session #1:Pre - Primary - Level 3, August 9 -17, 2014

The ABT® National Training Curriculum is a program for the development and training of young students that embraces sound ballet principles and incorporates elements of the French, Italian and Russian schools of training. Under the direction of ABT Artistic Director Kevin McKenzie, the ABT National Training Curriculum was designed and written by Franco De Vita and Raymond Lukens in collaboration with ABT’s Artistic Advisors and a Medical Advisory Board.

    All of the training programs for dancers offered at American Ballet Theatre, including the Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis School and the ABT Summer Intensive Program, utilize the ABT National Training Curriculum.

    The ABT® National Training Curriculum aims to assist beginning through advanced teachers in training dance students to use their bodies correctly, focusing on kinetics and coordination, as well as anatomy and proper body alignment.  Artistically, the National Training Curriculum strives to provide dance students with a rich knowledge of classical ballet technique and the ability to adapt to all styles and techniques of dance.

    To become an ABT Certified Teacher, candidates must complete intensive training in the ABT National Training Curriculum and successfully pass comprehensive examinations.  ABT Certified teachers are permitted to teach the ABT National Training Curriculum only to the levels in which they successfully complete the training intensive and required examination.  

    There are three levels of certification, which must be obtained in succession. Each intensive training session provides a minimum of 48 program hours of in-studio instruction over six to nine days.  A comprehensive certification examination is given at the end of each training session.

    Training Session #1:Pre - Primary - Level 3

    Pre-requisite: Candidates must have reached an advanced or professional level of ballet training.  This is the foundation of the curriculum and prepares teachers to instruct ballet students ages 4 and up.  Course length is 9 full days.  Cost: $1,650.00 USD + $150.00 USD materials fee.

    The ABT® National Training Curriculum Training Session #1:Pre - Primary – Level 3 is scheduled to take place at Theater Basel in Basel, Switzerland from August 9 -17, 2014.The course will be conducted in English with German, French, and Italian translation.
